The Chiltern Ridge Ultra Trail is our headline race which takes place on Saturday 9th May 2020.

This is the second of two discovery runs to explore the trails and check out the 50km ultra and half marathon route.

The run starts/finishes at Wendover train station and takes us to Wendover Woods, out along The Ridgeway, The Chiltern Way and lots of great smaller trails.

Parts of the race route we cover:
Ultra 2.5-7.5km & 37km-48km
Half 2.5km-18.5km

Please note - We will be splitting the runners into two pace groups!

This run is open for everyone, so don't worry if you're not signed up to the race.

During our medium paced runs the lead runner will average 6:00min/km (9:40min/mile)*.

For these runs it's important you have some experience running off road and are confident completing the distance at this pace.

*This pace will vary dependent on the terrain/elevation, so there are times when we go faster, slower & hike.

This run has a difficulty level of 3.

  • Elevation

    530 metres

Level 3 runs are undulating throughout and/or has more technical terrain.

Our difficulty level reflects the amount of elevation you will encounter on the route and a measure of how tough/technical the terrain is.

This route is packed full of woodlands and forest running.

Initially we will be climbing up to Wendover Woods and following the Ridgeway until Hastoe Village Hall (also the 1st aid station).

At Hastoe we will turn around and follow the route along the Chiltern Way and down into St Leonards and back into the woods.

In total we have 20km to cover, with 16km of this on the official race route.

Please note: This itinerary assumes you are travelling via train from central London however we welcome runners from anywhere!

Meeting points

Marylebone

Please meet us outside WhSmith in Marylebone station.

Please aim to meet us at 08:40 to give plenty of time to make our way to the platform.

Route start

If you are meeting us directly in Wendover please wait outside the main train station entrance.

Please meet the Runaway team at the meeting point 15-20mins prior to departure.

There is plenty of parking available at Wendover Station (charges apply).

The run will finish at Shoulder of Mutton pub for those that want some post run food and refreshments.

If we can reserve an area we will, however we don’t formally book a table as this often requires a deposit/exact numbers. If the chosen pub/cafe is full or busy we will try somewhere else.

Trail running shoes

Wear appropriate shoes for uneven terrain & muddy conditions!

Water

Carry at least 500ml of water with you.

Phone

You're unlikely to forget this but please remember to fully charge it.

Snacks

Bring an energy gel, bar or some sugar to help refuel during the run.

Running pack or bag

You'll need something like this to carry everything in.

Hat

A sun hat for warm weather or a warm hat for cold weather.

Gloves

In cold or wet conditions please bring gloves.

Cash

Carry a small amount of cash, you never know when it will be useful.
